LA Y Honored by the Clippers

On Sunday, April 10th, the LA Clippers® hosted LA Y Day at STAPLES Center®. YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, represented by LA Y President & CEO Alan Hostrup, Board Chairman Cristina Rose and board members Jim Ellison, Mark Helm, Steve Hinchliffe and John Power, was recognized during a special pre-game ceremony for the organization’s commitment and service to the LA community.

Members of our Jr. Clippers Youth Basketball program were invited to be part of the action, giving players high-fives, as they were introduced on the court. The Jr. Clippers selected for this honor earned their sport on the “High-Five Squad,” by completing an essay contest explaining why they were deserving of this special opportunity.

The LA Clippers are an official partner of YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles. In addition to providing the largest sponsorship in LA Y history, the team is actively engaged in supporting our Jr. Clippers players and coaches through exclusive basketball programs and clinics. Several NBA® players developed their love for the game at a Y, including Clippers Head Coach Doc Rivers and Clippers All-Star Guard Chris Paul.

We couldn’t be more proud of this partnership – especially since the game of basketball was invented at the Y!

We also like to think we brought the team good luck, as they finished the day with an 8-point victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
