Mid Valley Family YMCA
"Proposal C"
The LA REPAIR Mid Valley Zone grant will help the Mid Valley Family YMCA supplement their existing FEEDLA food program by introducing a community garden model where individuals and families are provided with the resources to grow their own produce. The hydroponic gardens are the perfect opportunity for the densely populated area due to the limited green space.
This community initiative will result in improved health and food security, improve physical and mental wellness through gardening; and build community connections through programming and committees that oversee the garden activities. After 12 months, the gardeners will have learned about all four growing seasons, and they’ll be prepared to mentor new community gardeners.
Voting for the Mid Valley Y Repair Zone means:
- Increased food security and access to fresh produce for 550 REPAIR Zone households in Mission Hills, Panorama City, and North Hills
- 2,200 meals and 50,000 lbs. of food distributed to program participants.
- By the end of July 2024, a minimum of 75% of program participants will report improved health and well-being.
- Program participants will receive a minimum of 144 hours of hydroponic planting education (48 three-hour classes).
- Approximately 550,000 hours of food security programming provided to REPAIR Zone residents.
