SPORTS

The LA Y champions the joy that sports bring to our communities.  Prior to the pandemic, the LA Y brought the joy of sports to nearly 20,000 kids annually with programs like:

  • LA Kings Ball Hockey
  • Jr. Clippers Basketball
  • Los Angeles Dodgers RBI Baseball
  • Los Angeles Galaxy Soccer program

We’re partnering with the Los Angeles Sports Council and pledge to bring back opportunities once local health officials clear the way for participation at our facilities. We are most excited to expand opportunities for girls who have been under-represented in sports due to lack of opportunities.

FOOD INSECURITY

The Y is helping battle food insecurity in every zip code in Los Angeles County.  In 2020, we provided more than 1.5 million grab and go meals and hundreds of thousands of pounds of groceries to our food insecure neighbors.

In 2021, our commitment to battling food insecurity remains steadfast.

We’re attacking food insecurity with our FEEDLA initiative. In partnership with the City of Los Angeles the Y is bringing needed meals to Angelenos at our 16 City of Los Angeles branches.  Additional Grab & Go meals, food for homebound seniors, and fresh produce and groceries for families in need are being distributed at the remaining branches outside the City of LA, because the Y is committed to helping eliminate food insecurity in all of Los Angeles County.

YOUTH & TEENS

Today’s teens are tomorrow’s leaders, and the LA Y has an incredible offering of programs that are designed to engage kids and teens and transform them into our next generation of change makers.

The LA Y’s camps offer kids an unparalleled opportunity to grow and learn.  Our summer camps located in the Angeles National Forest provide our children with an escape from life in the city where they’ll make lifelong friends and learn incredible life lessons.

Our Teens & Government cultivates the next generation of leaders by engaging high school students in real world civics where teens lobby, create bills and legislate in a mock City government.

The Y’s Model United Nations is designed for middle school students so they can broaden their horizons, gain exposure to global political topics and learn how to become leaders.

The LA Y has been engaging with LA’s teens for teen-led volunteerism efforts.  In 2020, our teens led a census drive to help ensure every Angeleno was counted so LA County can get the Federal funds that we deserve for transportation, hospitals, infrastructure and other programs.  Y teens have led initiatives to encourage voter registration, they’re standing up for women’s equality in the LA Women’s march, and so much more.

In partnership with Cal State University Los Angeles, our AchieveLA is a unique development program that engages with families beginning in pre-kindergarten to help pave a pathway to college for any child who strives to achieve that goal.

Every summer the LA Y offers free membership to LA teens with our Get Summer program.  Free access to the Y, all day, all summer so teens can get fit, make new friends and participate in all of our teen-oriented programming.

EDUCATION

The LA Y’s educational programs and initiatives are ensuring that every child has the tools they need to get the education that they deserve.

Right now, we’re bridging the digital divide by providing high-speed Wi-Fi at our branches to help make sure everyone has equal access to the internet.  We are offering distance learning support programs with virtual and / or in-person tutoring at our branches to help make sure our children don’t fall behind in school and to help them recover any lost learning.

In partnership with Cal State University Los Angeles, our AchieveLA program works with parents and kids starting in pre-kindergarten to help pave a path to college success for anyone who strives to achieve that goal.

The Y also offers pre-school as well as after school learning programs to help make sure every child in Los Angeles has the educational foundation to help ensure success in school.

HEALTHY LIVING

Having a healthy spirit, mind and body has always been a core value of the Y because living a healthy lifestyle does a whole lot more than benefit your physical health.  Exercise improves your mood, boosts your energy, and promotes better sleep.  It combats isolation by bringing people together and at the Y, creates a community.

Whether it’s our world class equipment, our fitness classes, our amazing instructors or our personal trainers, you’ll find the right way for you to achieve your healthy lifestyle goals at the LA Y.

Learn to swim, join a water aerobics class or swim laps at the Y.  With 36 pools throughout Los Angeles, nobody offers more opportunities for you to get in the water than the LA Y.

We’ve got a huge offering of daily group exercise programs along with virtual group exercise classes with your favorite Y instructors that you can take any time with our Virtual Y program.
